The Concept

Astoria & The Arts

A Community Leader

Astoria on Tenth and Arcus Developments are committed to taking a leading role in supporting the arts in Calgary. With Calgary’s blossoming reputation as a cultural, as well as a corporate, headquarters, Arcus seeks to partner with the art community to facilitate the development of cultural and entertainment endeavors and for Astoria on Tenth to be a leader in making the Calgary core an important, vibrant place to live.  Becoming an active member of the community, even before the building is completed, Arcus aims to encourage and foster the very reason why so many people are choosing to live downtown—proximity to a rich, urban lifestyle with diverse entertainment and cultural opportunities.

When the Residential Tower is completed, and in conjunction with its intended neighboring Hotel and Retail partners, Astoria on Tenth will become a sparkling new center for the business, arts, and local communities to mix, host special events, and gather.

Preserving Art Deco History

One Astoria initiative is to seek out and rescue vintage remnants from actual Art Deco buildings and theatres across North America. To date, it has rescued two dramatic theatre scones from a 1920s Art Deco cinema. Artwork, gargoyles, lighting, elevator details, mailboxes, and metalwork will be sought out to preserve pieces of history as well as integrate authentic elements into this new building.

Creating New Public Art

A local and national RFP will be issued for an original Art Deco-inspired sculpture, stonework, or iconic metalwork entrance feature to be created—with the vision of melding architecture and public art into a unique statement for both residents and the community.
