The Concept
Area and Neighbours
Known as the “Heart of the New West,” Calgary, Alberta has become one of the hottest economic centres in North America, with the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada, and an even healthier appetite for maverick entrepreneurial endeavors. Land, oil, energy, high tech, and professional services in a debt-free province with no sales tax, has created Canada’s most prosperous city—attracting a whole new breed of luxury brands, shops, restaurants, arts, world airlines, and real estate development.
At just over one million people, Calgary is also a friendly, manageable, safe city that enjoys its professional and amateur sports teams, celebrates its cowboy culture with the world famous Calgary Stampede, enjoys the longest continuous bike and path system in North America, and is only 45 minutes to Canmore, Banff, and the spectacular Alberta Rockies for skiing and outdoor pursuits.
The Calgary area’s remarkable beauty is a favourite of Hollywood moviemakers and has been captured on the big screen by such Oscar contenders as Legends of the Fall, Unforgiven, Brokeback Mountain, and the Assassination of Jesse James.
The Vibrant and Established West Beltline
On the 900 block of 10th Ave SW, Astoria on Tenth is perfectly positioned on the downtown’s Westside in the “Beltline” between the Design District, a mere one block to the south known for its furniture boutiques and art galleries, and the Film & Entertainment District, just a couple of blocks north in the downtown core.
This latter District is the lifeline of downtown, and starts at the head of 8th Ave with the Globe and Uptown Cinemas—host to Calgary Film Festival festivities, and trendy bars and restaurants like Opus, Seven, and Chicago Chophouse. It continues for the length of 8th Ave (Stephen Avenue Mall) past CityTV, Holt Renfrew, Bankers Hall, Calgary’s most exciting restaurant strip, and all the way to the Glenbow Museum, Epcor Centre and the City’s performing arts district next to City Hall.
Astoria on Tenth is truly the”walk-able” residence. Within one-to-two blocks, it accesses no less than three different grocery stores and organic food markets, several pubs and restaurants, wine stores, and the coffee shop regularly voted as making the city’s best lattes. These aren’t “future plans” for the neighborhood years down the road, but all lifestyle amenities existing today, and increasing in diversity every day. The tower walking distance to downtown for work, without being “in” downtown. You can even walk to the C-Train to take you anywhere in the city. If, that is, you aren’t taking your newly washed car from the Astoria underground parking levels, or having the preferred sedan service drop you at your favourite jazz club.
Astoria on Tenth is also pleasant walking distance south to 17th Ave, the high street of shops and boutiques at the base of Calgary’s oldest innercity establishment neighbourhood—Mount Royal.
Finally, being on the West side, Astoria on Tenth is a few block drive over the river on 14th Street, giving you instant access to the North or South of the city, or Memorial Drive leading you out of town to the Mountains. No negotiating your way through downtown traffic jams, construction, or getting stuck on the East side of the city for the residents of Astoria!
